Ok, with much coaxing from Figgy, I decided to pursue this story. Again, I am not concerned with grammatical errors at this moment Smile

Please keep the comments coming. I raelly need all the feed back I can get. Thanks bunches, Jenn

Sebastian Montego woke with a start. He lied still in his sweat-drenched sheets while he calmed his heavy breathing. A pitcher of water stood at his bedside table. He sat up and without bothering to use a glass; he felt relief an instant after the cool liquid rushed down his throat. He stood and walked to the basin wearing nothing but his black pants that showed off just enough of his muscular legs underneath. After splashing water on his face, he tenderly felt his swollen right eye. He let out a low growl as he surveyed the rest of his face. He tried to protect his face from the blows but failed in the end. Not that he was vain but, being hit in the face hindered his vision and with the eminent danger he would be facing, he needed to see. He ran a hand through his long dark brown hair, gathering and tying it with a strip of leather. He retrieved a pair of contact lenses from his pack and gently put them in his eyes, transforming them from their cat green hue to black.

At the sound of the scuttling feet, Sebastian flicked his fingers and the brown rat appeared in his hand. After whispering in its ear, the rat scurried down Sebastian’s rock hard arm and disappeared through a small opening in the wall. After pulling on his black shirt and boots, Sebastian grabbed his pack and walked out into the deserted streets of Salva Tierra. Looking up at the sky, he guessed it to be around four in the morning. He still had so much to do before her arrival. The waiting is over, he thought to himself. The plans were in motion and he was running out of time. A quick look over his shoulder and within seconds, Sebastian had vanished in the dark.

Miranda Leyland tried in earnest to concentrate on her friend, Nora’s final travel instructions. “Do you have your passport?” Nora asked.

Miranda checked her messenger bag, “Got it.” Miranda had saved her money for over a year to take this trip to Mexico. At twenty-six, she had never traveled outside the country, let alone the forty-five minute drive to the next big city.

Nora lifted the suitcase with a grunt, “Manda!” she called out. “We need to hurry.” Miranda slipped into her sandals and walked out of the bedroom, “My flight doesn’t leave for another 3 hours. Why are you in such a hurry?” Miranda knew that Nora was early for everything. Nora planned for anything and everything; always. Miranda wished for once that Nora would just relax and enjoy life instead of creating an itinerary for every waking moment of the day. She pulled her messenger bag onto her shoulder and after taking one quick look around her apartment said, “Let’s go.”

After two hours, they finally walked through the airport entrance. It took Nora almost an hour to find a parking spot. “I want to park where there is no danger of my car getting hit or broke into.” She had said as they made their fifth round through the parking garage. Miranda often wondered how she could go an entire day without bitch slapping Nora; then again, Nora has been her best friend since they were kids. They had met at the orphanage when on Miranda’s sixth birthday, a bully by the name of Sant Jacobs, took Miranda’s doll and threaten to rip its head off. Nora being a year older than Miranda, came up from behind Sant and gave him a wedgie so painful that he dropped the doll and ran away crying as both girls went into a fit of giggles. They have been inseparable ever since.

They were rushing to the check-in counter, “Do you have your itinerary?” Nora asked breathlessly. Miranda rolled her big brown eyes, “All three copies.” She sighed with frustration. After checking her baggage, Miranda felt her breakfast may come back to visit at any second. “Maybe I better wait till next year to take this trip.” Miranda was having second thoughts as they waited in the long line at the security gate.

Nora grabbed her so hard by the arm; she thought it would come out of its socket. “No, you are going to get on that plane and go to Mexico. You need this trip Manda. You have not had a decent nights sleep since you turned eighteen. Maybe when you get back, the dreams will stop.”

Miranda thought about her dreams. They were bad enough to make her wake in a cold sweat and it was usually the same dream of running through a cave and never reaching the opening before she was swallowed up in darkness. Then there was that voice, that deep raspy voice calling for her. However, lately she was having different dreams, no, visions. Like the one, she had this morning, which left her feeling weak and full of desire. Miranda was almost at the conveyer belt, “This is as far as I go.” Nora said as she handed Miranda a fashion magazine.
Trying not to cry, Miranda gave her friend a quick hug and said, “I’ll see you in a month and I’ll send you a post card every week.” Nora broke away from the hug, “Call me when you get there and whatever you do, have fun.” Miranda took a deep breath as she watched her best friend leave her alone to the unknown adventure that lay ahead.
