Ok, so i was just thinking... we have a place for out current pets, but nothing about those that we have loved and lost...

So, come here and tell us about your past pets...

Tell us their names, what sort of animal they were(dogs, cats, rats etc.), what they liked doing(chasing you around, swimming, digging up old bones etc.), what their favourite foods were(lettuce leaves, cockroaches etc.), Any interesting character traits that they had, and finally, how you lost your beloved pet...

u had to pick the subject that makes me cry!!!

i had 2 guinni pigs...there was a boy,keno, and a girl, patches. Keno LOVED carrots and loved to nibble on u and HE ABSOLUTLEY LOVED finding places that were IMPOSSIBLE to get to... and patches(this is gonna make me cry) was pregnat... she had no favorite food cause she would eat n e thing... and she loved to snuggle and make thoose little churpy sounds when she was with keno... they were so loving and addored by every one.....

now comes the tragic memory of their death: on december 22 2006 at around 3 in the morning my house caught on fire.... i was the only one awake in the house and went screaming through the house telling everone to get out... my brother was all i carred about so i went to the back and got him and split!! when i got him out my sis was screaming " i want my baby my baby!!!" it wasn't her real baby it was a ferret... i had to get her out and then she was dumb and went to get shoes and was burnt by plastic dropping from a vent.... then my mom's fiance went up stairs(were the fire was at) to get the animals... my older sis,chelsey, was up there when the fire started but got out in time... my family and our pets are all safe...except for my guinni pigs.. sadly they were killed by the smoke inhalation Crying or Very sad

i cried for days and days and couldn't even look at the pics i took with them and if i heard any thing that had do do with them (like i said keno loved carrots and i would give him my carrots from school lunch i would cry if i saw carrots for lunch.... ) so this is the tragic story of my beloved guinni pigs death ... Crying or Very sad

Rowdy and Cheri, my horses...

Cheri was 27 years old when she was put down, she was a morgan, and her coat was always full of dust. I always said to John, "someday, we ought to hose her down!" because no matter what I did, it was impossible to get all the dust out of her coat.

Rowdy was in perfect health when he fell down and couldn't get back up. He was 28, and a gentle giant. He was a percheron, and had a sort of brand on his muzzle like an 'I' and an upside down 'L' right next to each other. On dry days when the sun was shining and I just finished brushing him, his fur would shine like snow.

Awww thats TERRIBLE baby girl! And i would have loved to have met Keno and Patches, as well as Rowdy and Cheri, they all sound really great.

I truly loved my baby girl Bollie, but i have talked about her elsewhere...

I shall now talk about Joe...

Ok, so i guess the story starts with me buying some more mice from the pet shop, and one of them(i noticed within a few days of buying her) was heavily pregnant...

So anyway, she had eight precious little babies, and that was in the middle of the night...

I went to work the next day, so happy for the new additions that i hadn't expected, and i was really excited to see what colours they would be.

That afternoon i got home, and many of the babies were gone, several seemed blue and deflated... and there was Joe... He was the only one who was still alive, and i knew that i had to look after him!

I raced off to the shops and got some formula('twas baby formula, as they didn't have any kitten formula) and i found the smallest eye dropper possible, and i began to feed him...

I would heat the heat pack up frequently and place it under him so that he would stay warm, and i would hold him in a bit of tissue with my left hand, and then i would drop a little bit of formula onto his lips, and he would open his mouth a bit and i would see the liquid disappear into his mouth.

I wasn't sure if it was going to work, but i knew i had to try!

a short time after his first feeding i could see the little white bulge under his skin, which showed me that his tummy was full!

I then had to wipe him with a damp cloth. to encourage him to "do his business."

Well, anyway, i did this for four days, getting up throughout the night, so that he would get his food every four hours, and taking him in a tiny container to work, so that i could feed him on my lunch break and after my shift finished...

I named him Joe, after one of my favourite people ever, he was such a fighter, and such a wonderful character... He was my dad's ex-wife's dad, and he had died the week before.

I thought this mouse needed a strong name, something that would express his will and determination, and how much i loved him; so Joe it was....

Anyway, four days later he died, on my way to work...

I really wish that i had had the time to get to know him better, and that he had had a chance to live a full life. But i am still glad for the time that he had, and for the fact that i did all i could.

I love you Joe.

Oh, Joe sounds so cute! I practically forced Mae to let me get a bunch of baby mice I saw at the pet store because they were being sold as SNAKE FOOD. I almost cried when I saw the little piece of paper stuck up on the tank that said "ENTIRE LITTER: $2.00 SNAKE FOOD." I couldn't let them be eaten, so I raised them up and set them free in a field nearby. I don't think they were eaten, the grass was like hair. Impossible to pick things out of.

Mae's a firm believer in not forcing animals to live in captivity. At least she says, I think it's a ploy to keep pets out. She doesn't like animals much.

But I wouldn't have been able to take care of them anyway, I just took a giant bottle that held saline solution or something for Mae's contacts, filled it full of milk, flipped it over and let them drink whenever they wanted. I also put a teaspoon of baby formula in it, seeing as I didn't know they made formula for animals. Only one died, a little white one. I called him Snowy. I was like, 10 at the time, give me a break.

Ah, see with my mice, i am sure that if they were put into some field(which i don't have nearby) they would die of starvation!

My mice have a HUGE container, and when i clean it out, i empty out all the old stuff, and half fill it with dirt from the compost heap...

They then burrow down, make little rooms, caverns, several areas to sleep and snuggle... i put in containers and tunnels for them to use as well...

So i think as far as it goes, they have a pretty free captivity... Razz

Did they have fur when you got them then?

and their eyes were open?

That would mean they were about two weeks old, or a little bit more...

They had a LITTLE bit of fur, like peach fuzz almost. But you could tell with Snowy, he was older then the rest I think. Which is why he died, I think. He needed more food than I gave him. It made me feel terrible. My cage was really small, I just yanked out my sock drawer, filled it with dirt and put saran wrap with holes in it over it. My socks were full of dirt for weeks after that.

awww, were their eyes open?

they open at about 13-15 days, and they get the peach fuzz at about one week, that grows really quickly over the next week...

Did any of them have curly fur? some of mine did, it was so cute!

I don't think any had curly fur...I let them go when their eyes opened (which was actually at 12 and half weeks, that I do remember) I wanted to make sure they hadn't lost their seed hunting instinct. So I didn't have 'em very long.

Lemme think...when I first got them, yes they were bald...then after about two weeks, I noticed they had a little bit of hair. Snowy had his peach fuzz by the first week. Then at twelve and a half weeks, their eyes opened and I let them go, one by one, and left a huge pile of seeds. I think they were sunflower...or maybe pecans...wait, that's a nut. Do you say "PEE-can" or "peh-CAHN"? Mae always says "it's peh-CAHN, Hawkins, a pee can is a toilet." and then just to annoy her, I scream "PEE CAN PEE CAN PEE CAN!"

I'm too random.

Lol, i say Pee Can...

THAT IS A VERY LONG TIME FOR MICE NOT TO OPEN THEIR EYES!

The longest that any one of mine took to open its eyes, was 2 and a half weeks...

And then they are meant to be given away(if you are doing that) only after they are 6 weeks old...

They generally start eating soft food on their own at 2-3 weeks, and are completely weaned off mum's milk by week 4...

PAHAHA! I would have buried them thinking they're dead. As it normally is when you and I are on at the same time, it's 11:30pm. So I'm not paying attention.

I'm paying attention to you, of course. I'm just not exactly 'here' right now. My math teacher would always say that. "You're not here, are you?" and I would say "I thought I was the mental one." and he goes "you're here physically but I can tell you're daydreaming!" and then I'd make some rude comment and he'd make me go to the hallway. I hated the hallway. But I spent a good deal of my time in there trying to get a paperclip off the ceiling.

I'm using my brothers Mac. It's a load of crap. And I don't know how to do anything on it, and I don't dare, either, because I'm going to bed in about ten minutes anyway. I don't want to seem like I'm trying to get away from you! You don't scare me in the least!
