Well I did this on my other forum (which is sadly lacking any activity), and it was fun and probably the closest thing I've had to actual human contact! But basically, we just wrote a story. So why isn't this an RP? Cause RPs have more rules than this. The thing is you /can/ post controlling any character. I don't care if someone else created him or her. So a post is really just the next word, phrase, sentence, paragraph, essay, novella, novel, doesn't really matter how long it is. We just have to run with it. Someone else start!

Okay!

It was an open field. It was empty apart from one man. He wasn't moving or talking, but just staring at something in the distance. The elements had obviously taken some toll on this man - he was dirty and unshaven, and he carried a large staff to support what must have been a sprained ankle.
The man's eyes suddenly grew wider, then back the way they were before. He picked up his staff and began to limp towards what he was looking at.
After a few seconds, he stopped and said to the brush and forest in front of him, "I came."

The bushes wiggled around and a small section of the forest floor drifted apart as the man slowly began to descend.

He didn't notice as the small, beautiful butterfly rested on his shoulder.
"Welcome."

The man continued to stare at the man and said, "I'm afraid what you've asked of me is impossible."
The other man smiled as he looked at the butterfly. He reached over to it and it fluttered onto the back of his hand. "But you've made it this far. Surely you must have some strength left in you."
The man didn't seem pleased with this remark, because his face reddened slightly, but he took a breath and began again, "If you wish for me to carry out your... task... then you are out of luck. I'm afraid I can't take any more ware."
The butterfly flew away, and the other man's eyes lifted and rested on the face of the man in front of him. "Damien," he began, "you've been treking these mountains for days, and I assume it has been one of the more challenging things I have asked you to do," he smiled, "But if you will follow me, I'll show you a place where you can rest and reflect upon your choice. I'm attributing your laziness to your journey. Perhaps you will change your mind when your stomach is full and your body is rested."
"I'm afraid -"
"Come now, follow me," and with that, the man turned and set off into the woods. As defiant as Damien was, the thought of food and a nice bed was a temptation he couldn't possibly resist. He set off after the man.

Hehe, the other one I've done of these was a children's tale. A very strange adult only children's tale.

As they went deeper into the woods, the trees seems to reach out over them to catch the sunlight and prevent Damien from feeling its warming touch, and as the darkness become increasingly complete, strange growls and laughter rang from the bushes to either side of them.

I sorta meant for the voice to come out of the butterfly, but whatever. I can go a different way.

The butterfly circled over Damien's head, careful to stay out of sight of either men. The light being blocked by the trees was very helpful.

That's why I love this, people can ruin your plans and you have to try and get back on track... or make a new plan. Also I think you mean "sight" not "site".

Finally the forest opened up into a small sunlit circle. The oppressive darkness forming a wall around it. The two men entered.

It's not my fault that firefox doesn't have a grammar corrector. Better now?

The butterfly was forced to keep outside the circle as Damien followed the man into the circle. As it waited there, more and more men entered the circle, making it hard to keep an eye on Damien.

Damien was beckoned to the center of the circle where he sat on a stump. The other men closed around him.

Damien was frightened as he realized what was going on. When the circle of men grew so close that they were all shoulder to shoulder, he could hear the humming sound from all of the men chanting under their breath. Damien began to loose control of his mind.
But it suddenly stopped as a giant bird swooped into the circle and tried attack the men.

The bird dove in and started tearing them men apart. Limbs were strewn everywhere. The bird turned towards Damien. All he had worked for. The quest. Everything. It all flashed before his eyes and the bird covered his vision and severed his life's thread.

I hate you, you know.
The bird realized it had gone too far and used it's magic to put Damien back together and bring life back into his body.
When the bird was done it flew away, leaving Damien alone in the clearing with the butterfly watching in the darkness.

It's okay, Michelle, if he insists on killing Damien many times, we can make him kind of like Harold in Harold and Maude. Wait - Nevermind.

A warm feeling flooded Damien and his eyes snapped open.
This curious bird was staring into Damien's eyes. When Damien looked around and saw all the men around him, he realized that none of them were familiar to him. He began to spin in a circle, looking at the trees, trying to find where the other man had left him, and how he could have possibly gotten so lost and so close to danger.
He could have sworn he had followed him the whole way into the clearing, but none of the pale, dead faces belonged to him. When he turned back to the bird, its colorful feathers were dyed crimson with blood. There was no reason for Damien to be alive.
There was no reason for any of this. The man who had lead Damien into the forest wouldn't have done this, he was so sure of this that he was willing to bet his life on it - as was clear when he followed him into the clearing. If Damien had taken his time to notice what was going on around him, and not staring at the treetops yearning for the sunlight, he would have realized what had happened.
The man had failed to tell Damien the peculiarities of this forest. The legends of the forest go back many centuries and the stories of it for many miles and none of them were true. However, there is one that is close.
There is a legend that is familiar with many cultures and many people. It would be called 'The Fountain of Youth'. The truth was that the fountain had long ago disappeared. The fountain was a spring that eventually washed over a great portion of land, where undying trees would later grow and magical creatures would then thrive.
Damien did not know this. He didn't know anything about where he was or who he was with. He was - in every way - quite unprepared for the place he was, and as Damien followed the man into the forest, he was following his shadowy figure. Damien didn't realize that the man wasn't leading him physically at all, because he knew that would be pointless to do in this forest. Instead, he lead Damien on a sort of string that connected their two beings, something he learned to do quite a while back, around the time he first visited the forest. And sinse Damien let his mind wander for those few seconds that he stared up at the trees, the string was severed, and he was then led by a creature darker than any tale.
So, as Damien sat in the middle of this circle of bodies, spinning around trying to find his leader, he was being watched by this magnificent bird. This bird was also something that many have heard of. A phoenix - whose tears had just healed Damien.

Awww, I was going to have an awesome intense prologue where the guy dies and then something happens from there. But if I can't do that, I'll just have fun making this guy really unlucky and lucky.

Death stared down at the man: "DAMN. AND I WAS SO CLOSE TOO. WELL GUYS I GUESS YOU WIN THIS BET."
Loki smiled, "i never lose a death bet"
"That you don't Loki, and that is why I tend to bet with you." Athena started counting out the gold pieces.
Suddenly Death's hood seemed to smile (in a way indescribable to those who are not immortals): "DOUBLE OR NOTHING."

And yes Death always speaks in CAPITAL LETTERS and his dialogue is always preceded by a colon. And yes Loki always speaking in lowercase and his dialogue is always preceded by a comma. And Athena always talks before it is described. Of course you guys probably don't care. Very Happy
