(welcome to my world. xD)

There was Jimmy; sitting at the bar. I strolled up beside him, trying to sound casual. "Hey, Jimmy. That beretta I bought from you--" I said. "What about it?" He grunted. He sounded about ready to puke. "It didn't have no bullets in it!" Jimmy scratched his butt. Ew; I thought. His hand nearly gets lost when he does that. "What about it?" He repeated. I glanced at the ceiling. I wished I had something heavy I could hit him over the head with. "So I guess it's a good thing I only bought /just/ the beretta; I mean, if I had bought more than one gun, I'd have been loaded down on that uh...camping trip. That I just got back from." I said. You make a bad detective, a voice in my head reminded me. Fortunately, Jimmy didn't seem to care about the camping trip lie.

(I remember math class quite well..."what is the function of x?" "well, x=calculator, and the function of a calculator is to do the math for me so I don't have to. ^^")

I was not going to get any work done with these memories, so I stumbled back to my apartment for the second time tonight. I stumbled through the streets surrounded by other drunks stumbling to their apartment. This was the city at night. A bunch of drunks.

(Huh? Wha? That made no sense. Did you mean gerney? Or maybe journey? Or what? PLEASE WRITE SO I CAN UNDERSTAND YOU! Granery? Also how does one make a man made jungle? Plant a bunch of trees and leave them there for a few centuries?)

I stumbled into my apartment, just like hundreds of other drunks stumbling into their apartments. I fell into my bed, just like those drunks. That's what I was now, a drunk.

I walked out of my apartment and stopped just before the street. It was about the same time that all the random drunks stumbled off the streets and fell into their own stale apartments, reeking of sweat, vomit, alcohol and blood, so there were relatively few people around. It smelt cleaner too. I swept myself up in my travel cloak and quickly moved to the nearest alleyway. I pulled two handkerchiefs out of my coat arm and watched as two doves flew off to seek their fortune. They didn't meet any form of winged predator. I hoped that their luck would rub off on me.

Pain. Again. I had another hangover. I stumbled out to the kitchen and poured myself as many cups of water as I could drink. "I really need to stop this drinking habit," I mumbled to myself.

The kindly old woman shuffled into the room with a dictionary and a guide to grammar. She placed the books on a table near GD and then warmly smiled at him. With the flat of her palm, she slapped him upside the back of his head yelling, "What in the H-E- double hockey sticks do you think you are doing getting drunk all the time?"

I looked up at the old woman; I had always like her. I looked up at her, "You would get drunk, if you had to endure two assassination attempts and nightmares." I smiled, "Fine, I'll quit." We looked at each other, paused, then laughed. "Now, what are these fine books for? I'm not the speech impaired one in this town."

The old woman supressed her agony to release rude bodily noises as she handed GD a coded message containing information of his would be assasins. She fell into a fit of coughs that produced purple phlem, when she finally caught her breath she reached into her knee high and pulled out a vile of homemade poison, "A half of a drop in your killers drink will do the trick." She handed the vile to GD and shuffled her way to the kitchen to bake him some cookies.

I smiled, "Thanks for the rum." Getting up, I slid some money into a book on cooking and left, taking the other books with me. The vial of poison slid into a small pocket in my fedora. The darkening sky told me I'd be sopping wet before I reached the office. I sighed.
