Mae was getting after me the other day because I was complaining about this jerk I used to go to school with.

This kid was Satan. Literally. He got his ear pierced when he was six, and started swearing like a sailor at eight. He actually showed up to Tyler one day, and just started beating on him. Tyler got the upper hand, obviously, and pounded him into the dust. So the little jackass goes up to the teacher and starts going "ooh, Tyler hit me." Tyler was going to get suspended, but Travis actually fought for him this time. (That is huge; FYI. He hates Ty more than he hates me. o_O) Why? Because this kid got away with it SOLELY because he had 'a hard life'. From what I gathered about it; (yes; it) his father was always drunk, he lied to Social Services about his parents and got him and his sister dumped in a foster home, his older sister got herself pregnant at 14, and they moved about four times.

This really set me off at the time; and it still does when I hear that people have killed other people or something and gotten away with it because they had a hard life. Am I alone here in thinking that the world is too sympathetic?

Actually, I think they're going about it the wrong way.

Therapy is the answer.

But Hawkins - Almost every serial killer or psychopathic murderer has had a traumatic life.

The parts of your brain are very interlaced. If you are not shown kindness, then you do not use it. Some scientists hypothesis that the part of your brain that was neglected gets switched and causes one to feel excited when one should feel scared, or happy when somebody should feel guilty, etc.

My point is: We can't punish them at first. We must review the case in which they come from, and then we can decide whether they are insane, or if they are just cold-blooded.

(I believe that didn't make sense even to me, but I have to go to bed, so I'm not rewriting this =])

See, I had a much harder life than this asshole. My father left Mae and I before I was even born. My grandfather died when I was five. I lived in a boarding house with the creepiest people you will ever know. I had a cat that I gave away when we moved to Travis', only to find out later that Travis wanted a cat and that the other people had put her to sleep because they decided they didn't want a cat. There are several other things that have happened, but I really don't want to go into detail. And on top of that, I had autism, so nothing EVER went right. Now I'll go write depressing novels about my life.

What I'm getting at here is that Mae never let me get away with the excuse, "I had a hard life." I had dealt with nearly everything you hear about in all those tragic news stories. Which is one good reason why I keep a shotgun under my sofa, but aside from that...I never /wanted/ to be treated like a fragile object because "I had a hard life". I always knew that was bull, anyway. And I haven't killed anyone yet. o_O

No. It shouldn't be an excuse.

It should only be a possibility.
