Okay, if you live in Australia and listen to the news, you have no doubt by now heard: Them darned polly-tishons getting what they's be deservin'. Parliament House workers can no longer greet people using the term "mate."
Now what, might I ask, is the sense in this new edict? I can't see how making people feel comfortable in the political hub of the country is a bad thing. "Hey mate, how's things?" "Yeah, the- Crap! How am I supposed to potentially make or break this country and make calm, justified decisions while I'm completely at ease? Good one, retard!" I don't think so.
So here's a nice little poll for you! Do you think this heinous term should be banned from politics? Or should we all work together to let Johnny know that sorry, this is Australia, and he can close your eyes and chant "There's no place like America, there's no place like America" all he wants but it won't magically make us any more of a world power?
That was an attempt at humour. Howard loves our country and everything in it, especially McDonalds, Coca-Cola and the word "color". _________________ "Why do you waste my time?" is the answer to the question on your mind -Sam's Town, The Killers |

| Wow if someone that is a in power wants to use the word mate in a sentence who cares. Its not what we should worry about. Why make a big deal over it. People are starving and dyeing while political officals just set and enjoy their drinks. And as for America the system is good, its just the crappy political officials who screwed it up. So as for the Aus i wish you the best of luck. |

We are Aussies, we have every right to use words like "mate", and that extends to parliament to...
If John Howard wants to change that, then he might as well ban Vegemite, G'day and BBQs as well as everything else Aussie (and be met with a rampant angry mob in the process).
This is Australia, not USA. _________________ It does not do to leave a live dragon out of your calculations, if you live near him.

Not Lmwo?
Okay, I'm not (yet) Aussie, but I want to say it anyway
"Mate" is a word. What's wrong with it? I call most of the people I serve at work "mate". I call my longest-standing friend (not sat down for ten years!) "mate". Why shouldn't a politician use an informal colloquial as a term of address? If anything, it would put me further at ease than them calling me "sir". I mean, I would probably be earning around £30K a year, as an average. He'd be earing nearly £80K. If anything, I should be calling HIM sir. By making politicians use more formal language, we're segregating them from the general population, and perpetuating the "politicians are all up themselves" stereotype. Okay, so they ARE up themselves, but still. _________________ And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming

When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am |
