Ok, there's a site i was told about today... http://www.nanowrimo.org/ anyway, you basically have a month to write a novel, and you aim for 50000 words or more... but they only do it once a year, and you can't even register until october; it starts in november.

So... i was thinking, maybe we could do something along those lines on this site... just to get a little more life into it, and to maybe encourage new people...

On the NaNoWriMo thing(which stands for National Novel Writers Month), you are an automatic winner once you cross the 50000 word mark... i was thinking that we could have something similar. I was thinking maybe if you get to the set point, then you are in the running, for which myself and a few others would read them, and mark a first, second, and third place, each of whom would get a place of honour on the site. And of course those who got past that point, but were not first second or third would get special mention aswell.

We could always let it go for longer... it could go for a few months instead of one, or we could have a lower word count required, or both...
So anyway guys, let me know what you think about this idea... would you be interested in just such a competition? I think it would be a really good thing to help kick this site into gear properly.

Anyway, hope to hear from you soon!

Figment.

Sounds good- would the 1st, 2nd, 3rd thing be based on a few judges or based on ratings from a poll? Just curious.

thats a good point!
I think we could probably do a poll, and then overall the judges decide... but the poll could affect it, like 10 or 20 per cent of the overall vote or something... or incase the judges had trouble deciding...
What do you think?

Sounds good, I like that idea... once we have enough members we could even have the judges give the placings, and then have a "people's choice" winner, lol. Anyway, I'm thinking of starting a smaller competition myself, while the details for this one are figured out... I'll post the idea tomorrow.

What a brilliant idea! Go the people's choice!!!
What do you guys think? (providing anyone but myself and wightblack are actually still reading this...)
Oh well, i guess we'll address that after the judging anyways...
I hope to get the longer story competition up and running soon, so, suggestions?
What do you reckon the word limit should be?
And how long should it run for?
I'm just trying to get a genral idea of how much freedom you want...
I was thinking maybe between 30, 000 and 60, 000 words... nice wide berth for you guys then...
And maybe it would run for about three months... but then if any of you guys wanted to enter NaNoWriMo, then it might get a little dificult, because it would finish as NaNoWriMo started, you may want a break in between the two... That would also mean we would have to start it now...
Or we could make it so that during the NaNoWriMo we have a break from this comp... i'm not sure...
Ok, well let me know what you think, i might discuss the rules further with my fellow mods, and judges...
Or i might just start it, and we can finalise that all as we go?
Ok, well i'm off to see War of the Worlds tonight, so i have to go get ready...
so i might post something about the competition later tonight when i get home, or if i have time before i go...
