Now in another topic I mentioned that the Sword of Truth was my second favourite series, some of you might have asked what my favourite is, well this is it. Drumroll please.
Ahem. Ladies and Gentlemen, my absolute favourite series of all time. The one, the only, the not-quite-finished (curse you GRRM), the Song of Ice and Fire!
I could go on about this series for hours, but I won't. A Song of Ice and Fire is an amazing series by George R. R. Martin (referred to earlier as GRRM). The first book is A Game of Thrones, which kicks the series off with a BANG! A very big and loud BANG! that almost killed me. What makes this series so special? Well the lack of a good and a bad for one. Sure you find yourself rooting for one side or another, but there is truly no good, and there is little bad. And as if that weren't enough, George R. R. Martin is not afraid to kill off your favourite characters. No one is safe, so you can't say, oh he's invincible cause he's a main character.
The novel is set in a fantasy world largely on the continent of Westros. The important thing is it's a giant civil war and more and more factions show up, some of the factions go away(ish), the fiddles hit the fan, and I get sad when the fifth novel isn't published on time.
If any of you read or have read this, I'm rooting for Tyrion and Daenerys and Arya and Jon and a bunch of others that are fighting against each other. If my review has turned you off, please read it, I suck at this reviewing stuff.
In the end I give A Song of Ice and Fire, 10 medieval wars out of 5
(or was it ten?). Anyway it gets the best score I can give it. _________________ Remember, a velociraptor can run at 10 m/s (indoors) and it knows no fear. |

I agree with just about everything you said. A song of Ice and Fire is a really good series that any fan of fantasy books should read. Like you said, I love the way that he refuses to establish a "good" or "bad" side. Instead he just leaves it up to you to decide who you are going to root for and which characters you would side with. Since he usually provides a character POV from every faction in the book, you get to see all of the numerous events unfold from different perspectives. And you nailed it when you said no character is safe, George is a sadist when it comes to his characters, main or minor. My only gripe with the series is that he takes too long to write the next book. I hate the long wait! _________________

Hm...sounds like I've published in my sleep...his writing style is near identical to mine...I usually kill off my favorite characters, just to add some "OMG!" to it...and I usually hated it when I wrote like "I'm the good guy. No I am. Wait--who is it?" because I figured it would make it like, "eh, I can't decide who's better. There's no bad guy! They're both good! I hate this!"
But it's nice to know people like that. _________________

Yea, I hate a good and bad, it always makes book so predictable. However sometimes I do have a good and bad, but I always try having something to make it interesting. _________________ Remember, a velociraptor can run at 10 m/s (indoors) and it knows no fear. |

I have a good and a bad, but sometimes it turns out the bad guy isn't entirely bad, but is actually trying to do something good, and then dies anyway.
Hm...my ending are rather depressing, aren't they? _________________

I like it when the bad guy dies in some cases, but others I just wish the cheesey 'good' idiots would just die!! _________________ Spider, Spider, on the wall.

That's why I love Song of Ice and Fire, although some of them were quite dear to my heart. *sniff* _________________ Remember, a velociraptor can run at 10 m/s (indoors) and it knows no fear. |
