Time for a little politics my dear people.

I am unhappy. Very much so. Why? Becuase of the following article:

CONTROVERSIAL Muslim leader Sheik Taj el-Din al Hilaly is planning an assault on three Labor seats in the state election - including that held by Premier Morris Iemma.

Sheik Hilaly is considering running against Mr Iemma in Lakemba, a safe Labor seat and the heart of Sydney's Islamic community, in the March 24 election.

He will also endorse Muslim candidates for the seats of Bankstown and Auburn, held by Labor's Tony Stewart and Barbara Perry. Speaking from Egypt last week, Sheik Hilaly gave the strongest indication yet that he may stand down as mufti.

"There must be a shake-up with new blood to be rid of the old guard and bring new blood, including the position of mufti," he told SBS Arabic radio.

"The position of mufti is a spiritual position that requires understanding of the faith, and an Australian heart that understands the issues - even if we create an Iftaa council until we find the appropriately qualified person."

Sheik Hilaly would not name candidates or reveal if he would stand for the seat. However, a close friend, Keysar Trad, said the Mufti was considering it.

"If the community intimates its desire to run him, we would expect him to accede to the community's wishes," he said, adding it was time the Muslim community took the election seriously.

"It is time that politics in NSW received a good shake-up and Iemma's dilemma will be in the Lakemba voters who are dissatisfied with the shortage of facilities and services and will vote accordingly," he said.

"Lakemba is the one of the most neglected electorates in NSW. These major political parties need a really good shake-up and there is no-one like the mufti to give them that shake-up."

The mufti told the Arabic program: "I am consulting with some of the brothers and, on my return, we will agree to nominate a sincere, honest Australian personality whose loyalty is totally to Australia and who is able to make contributions to the Lakemba electorate and NSW in general."

Mr Iemma said he was looking forward to going head to head with Sheik Hilaly. "I'm confident the majority of my electorate, including the majority of Muslim constituents, would back my views every day," he said.

In Lakemba, the Muslim community makes up nearly 13 per cent (8264) of the electorate. Mr Iemma won 64.21 per cent (24,060) of the 39,093 votes cast in the 2003 election.

ok so you might not have every heard of this guy, but Sheik Taj el-Din al Hilaly, is quite often in the news here. Most famously for stating that women who are raped are done so becuase it is their fault.. he made a very nice allusion to women being like uncovered meat that gets attacked by foxes, blaming the meat for being uncovered and thus provoking the attack.

So my point it, there is suppose to be a separation between state and religion, but does it really work? Can you separate yourself from religion in order to govern? Does it work?

I think his comments about rape are ludicrous... it is in no way the fault of the women, they are the victims, hence the phrase used to describe victims of rape, victim.
Also, I think only bad things can come when a religious leader is also the head of the state. It is a situation that can only breed problems, as conflicting views in state and religion affairs are brought together...

It is something that can never work, and I hope no-one here in Australia (or anywhere else for that matter) needs to find that out first hand.

I'm not religious. People try to shove things down my throut all the time and it gets REALLY annoying, believe me. What I do believe is that people are allowed to have a religion when they are in government, but have to have the sense not to mix the two. It's just a bad idea for one guy to get up there and say "Okay, everyone! It's now going to be illegal to be gay, or anything other than (whatever religion), because I said so. I rule" because that's just like saying "Okay, you can't be tall, and you can't ever follow your heart."

I do think that it is wrong for somebody who seems very similar to a nazi to be ruler, because who wants a racist, prejudice, ignorant loser for a ruler right?

Rape is not the woman's fault. That's the most uneducated thing I've heard in a while. There are two people/things to blame for rape: A) The guy! He did it! B) the media, for making handcuffs and whips seem "sexy".

Yeah, i think that the whole "rape" idea, and why some guys like it, is because its something they cant have... and it gives them a feeling of power... The same reason lies behind guys (most) wanting girls to make out, and also behind bondage...

Some guys like to have a girl completely helpless, and they know its something that they shouldn't do, but that makes them want it all the more...

Its messed up, the way some people's minds work...

I try. My grandmother always said that to me too. Along with a little devil.

My friend (more like *uberairquotes* friend) said to me once, "you're grandma is as fat as a pig." I didn't quite get it, so when I was walking into the house I said "you're as fat as a pig". And everyone was like "OMG WHAT?!" I didn't get it. I thought it was a compliment.

It could be a compliment, but not to this little headache. Her brother once climbed a tree and had to call the fire dept. to get him down. He was almost 300 ft up, so I can see why he freaked out...

Hah, it's like that joke. About the kid hearing his parents say all the naughty swear words, etc. And so he repeats them in quite a comical manner =D
