Enormous series (20+). First book is Dragonflight. These books had me completely entranced for years. (I still love them, but am no longer obsessed. I change obsessions faster than I change clothes these days.)
The first book is almost pure fantasy, but the premise is sci-fi and they get more sci-fi as they go on. I can't really describe the epic proportions of story and the utter brilliance of world-building. _________________ Altogether Too Unsophisticated To Deserve a Proper Postscript

I read all of the Pern books my library has, and in no particular order either...
But yeah, this is a very good series, a very good read indeed for all who love dragons (like me...).
Not true fantasy, not true sci-fi, but a very good combination of both. _________________ It does not do to leave a live dragon out of your calculations, if you live near him.

I call it an idemundary, not a series because while the books all take place on the same planet and some of the people are in many of the books, all the books can be read individually. _________________ Altogether Too Unsophisticated To Deserve a Proper Postscript
