There was an episode of CSI that I saw right before I left for the lake. There was a girl they found dead in 'dog dumping site'. There were dog carcasses piled on top of dog carcasses and garbage and all sorts of other Sh*t, some with their muzzles duct taped shut, some just heads, etc. It later turned out that she was a champion dog fighter, and they went into how they train dogs for dog fighting--they'll run their dogs on treadmills until they drop, make them bite onto a rope and hang there for hours to strengthen their jaw, and sometimes fed cats or smaller puppies to give them the taste of blood. This actually happens, and what's worse is that when the police go to stop them, they take all their dogs and put them to sleep because the law defines them as 'dangerous'. So the dogs, who were beaten, tortured and abused by their owners are killed solely because their owners are sick and twisted, while the owners just get a jail sentence.
What I'm getting at here is that I don't think it's fair that just because 'it's a dog', and isn't equal to a human, it'll get put to sleep without any second thought. Why does the dog, who didn't do anything wrong, have to die, when the human, who tortured the hell out of the poor creature, only get 18 months or even just house arrest? I mean...is it morbid or sadistic to say that it's only fair if dog fighters get capital punishment? What makes a human life so much more special than that of a dog? _________________

Well, the main religion, Hawky, is Christian in the U.S. And you have to consider the "rules" that we have. And one of them is that animals' lives aren't quite as important humans.
Then, about the dogs getting put to sleep without a second thought, there really isn't any other way. Once anything goes through something like that--whether it be human or animal or even alien--they can't change. Humans, maybe after 70 years. But I still doubt it. Dogs that are trained to fight will fight. And they are dangerous. I mean, if you had, say, a little kid (3 or 4), and they were playing the back yard when the neighbor's adopted dog is also out (and this dog was previously a fighting dog), would you really want your kid around it? That dog could probably rip your kid to shreds.
And the other thing, about the unfair treatment, I totally agree with you. They should have capital punishment--or, at least, the same punishment as someone would have for severely abusing and murdering a child. Which would be capital. It really isn't fair that they don't even go to jail for 2 years. _________________ ~Michelle The Bee

I know; but there are rescue shelters out there, there's always the 'try it out, if they don't change, pull the plug' option. And then we have killers and rapists and all these other dangerous maniacs out there, but all they get is therapy, a bit of rehab, and they're sent back out in the world to kill and rape again.
I personally liked the end of this episode, (and Tyler did too), the other guy who worked with this girl was euthanized, and then he let all the dogs in the shelter that she had beaten just tear her to bits. I'm not saying I could ever do something like that, or would encourage anyone to do it, but I still thought that it ended fairly. _________________

Pitbulls are the best family dog you can have. They are so commited to their owners and love them so much, that they are willing to fight to the death in order to please them.
And it's not fair that when people say, "I want a pitbull!" people automatically assume that they're psycho.
Pit-boxing was the first kind of dog-fighting, and now they've bred "super dogs" who are even more monstrous than a pitbull.
The thing about punishment is that I have no idea.
Killing people seems a little harsh.
But sending them to prison for only 2 months is not nearly harsh enough.
I wish there was this machine that we could strap to peoples' heads. And it was like the whole "Go think about what you've done" punishment, and as soon as we strapped it on the murderous, raving lunatic's head, they would start to watch everything that they did from a whole other angle, and they start to cry and feel remorse and all the pain of what they had done would tear them apart. I wish that there was a machine that could make monsters be human again.
But... no such luck. People who believe they're right in what they do will always believe they are right. There's really no stopping the arrogance. So until we find that machine - I'd say at least 12 years in prison would suffice. _________________ ~Shaye

See, the thing about the maniacs is that they convince themselves that what they're doing is right. And they hang their whole lives on the fact that they're right, and they know they're right. Like Hitler. He told himself over and over again that he was right, and that the Jews /deserved/ to die. If he had some shred of hesitation, i.e., "maybe the Jews don't deserve to die..." he'd have committed suicide in that instant. I just know it. _________________

Mmm, I agree with you Hawkins...
I don't know how, but somehow these people think that they are doing the right thing, and that watching animals kill other animals for entertainment is "cool". There was an issue with a rat breeder that I don't think I have posted in here yet... But I shall go and do that now... _________________

I tell you something. There is no way I can even begin to understand how people can condone animal cruelty. I can't even begin to comprehend it. I find it cold hearted, cruel and souless. I always go by the philosiphy of treat others how you would expect to be treated. And that doesn't just stand for humans, but all animals, whether large or small, intelligent or otherwise. All animals have the capacity to feel pain and suffering, so we must not allow them to undergo uneccessary pain, and try and prevent them from suffering any pain at all.
Treat others how you expect to be treated. _________________ It does not do to leave a live dragon out of your calculations, if you live near him.

That kinda reminds me of back when they would harpoon turtles because they thought that turtles couldn't feel their shell. But in actuality, it's their spine. _________________ ~Michelle The Bee

See, being locked in a cage for a a couple years isn't the same as being forced to fight to the death. The worst of it is, the losing dog doesn't even have to be dead. If he breaks a leg or is bleeding too heavily to get back up, they'll just drag him out of the ring and toss him aside until he dies. Unless you have a 'caring' owner who tries to nurse him back to health... _________________

The worst of it is that we're all so worried about the CIA torturing people for information "inhumanely", yet they don't have time for animal abuse cases. I hear that drowning is actually rather peaceful, so why should we care, right? -_-' _________________

Not /us/, but people are writing entire articles about how it's just sick and cruel that the CIA is torturing the crap out of people. And I don't get why that's more important that animal abuse. The animals generally didn't do anything...the convicts did bad things. _________________
