Okay; so I just finished a lengthy argument with Tyler after he spent the last two hours blaring Sh*t on Mae's computer...

It does not matter if EVERYONE likes something; like a movie, or something. That doesn't make it good. Correct? For instance; in the 1600's, everyone thought that tobacco was good for you; it was great, etc. We now know that it's bad; and there's no argument that tobacco is not good for you. Then we come to art; which is a bit different to define as crap. Tyler is hugely under the impression that in art, it's entirely opinion. If a lot of people like something, like High School Musical for instance, then that makes it good. It can go both ways, though, right? Just because a lot of people like High School Musical doesn't change the fact that it was poorly written/cliched/had paper thin characters/etc. Then you have the cult movies; like All Dogs Go to Heaven and the Black Hole. They got poor ratings; but both had interesting storylines. So basically what I'm not saying that there is a strict definition for what's crap and what's opinion in art; I'm just saying that there does come a point when a movie or book or something actually is crap.

And then you have rap. It's cRAP, get it? xD

Everything is opinion based. I like that movie, you don't. You LOVE this movie, it makes me want to hurl. There is no fact to be able to say if something is crap or not. Unless it comes out of a hole.

Agree.

I can't stand musicals (that's why GD hates me).

But a lot, lot, lot of people love them.

Also

I thought What Dreams May Come was a great movie.

Kelsey says it's dumb and is for hippies.

However. A crappy movie would be Green Slime.

If you can find that movie, you will laugh at how dumb it is.

It just switches plots right in the middle of the movie. It's the weirdest thing ever. That is also arguable, depending on how you view the arts.

I know what you're saying; that there's no way to actually determine what's stupid and what isn't. But what I'm saying is that a movie or something could have a terrible, cliched, racist, boring, etc. plot, right? I mean that it is VERY poorly written, the plot isn't resolved, etc...but then let's say that a lot of people like it. Their opinion doesn't change the fact that the story is poorly constructed; right?

True. I think I see what you're saying now. Like it may be terrible, but people like it anyway, because it's terrible? That kinda thing?

Well...sorta. Like 'Plan Nine From Outer Space'. That movie was terrible; you could see the strings lowering that pie tin "spaceship", and it switched from day to night during scenes...but a lot of people liked it. But that doesn't change the fact that it wasn't a very good movie.

*two year old brain*

Well; let's stray from movies then to something a bit more...creepy. Let's say that just because dung beetles like to eat poop, doesn't mean it's good. Right? All the dung beetles in Africa can tell you that poop is the greatest thing ever, but that doesn't make poop good for you/good to eat/etc...I mean yes; there are a lot of loopholes to go with that statement, but still...
