If you are Australian there are several competitions opening up for literary people. One is "THE AUSTRALIAN" VOGEL LITERARY AWARD 2007. Which includes $20,000 prize money, PLUS royalties from sales. Its only for previously unpublished (commercially or electronically) manuscripts and has to be either fiction, Australian History or a Biography between 30,000 and 100,000 words. It has to include a synopsis and entries must be lodged with an accompanying cheque of $25 by the 31 May. You must be under 35 years of age. For more information comb through the REVIEW section in the weekends AUSTRALIAN newspaper, or look up their web-site.
Completed forms and unbound manuscript, printed with double spacing on A4 paper, in english with cheque *breath* must be posted to

The Australian/Vogel Literary Award,
PO Box 8500 St Leonards, NSW 1590

There is also the Newcastle Poetry Prize, which is for Aussies too. Its for open and new media poetry, the latter of which can be collaborated. Closing date is June 29th 2007. Prize for Open Poetry is $11,000
Prize for New Media Poetry is $2,000.

I'm all out for ideas right now, plus I have my own deadlines to meet. Would love to, but I just cannot see myself gaining the time...

How great would it be if someone from Figments won it (the Vogel one)... we could all, like, totally hit them up for money and stuff. Yeah!

Seriously, this would be a great opportunity for prospective writers, I imagine the competition would be pretty stiff but $25 isn't that much money to take a shot at it... and if you can't make it for this year (ie if you aren't confident enough to write 30,000-100,000 words in less than a month as a polished enough piece to be published... and I mean who wouldn't be that confident?!!) remember that you have a whole year until the next one. I'm definitely entering next year's, and I'll be working on mine throughout the year. If there's enough interest I might even start a thread inside the "works in progress" forum, Figments helping Figments win lots of money, that kind of thing Razz Thanks for bringing this to our attention Aurora!
