WARNING!
This craft involves sharp objects, so please, please, before you undertake it... Make sure that you are not alone in the house, and that Parents and/or Guardians know what you are doing!

What you need:

* Sticks/bits of branches from trees/ground/whatever.
* Stanley/retractable style knife(you can use others, but these ones work really well.
* Sand Paper
*Special ink or paint that you can buy from a hobby shop.

What to do:

1. Be REALLY REALLY CAREFUL

2. Carve the bark off of the stick, until it is down to the wood underneath... Cut off any twigs that seem to be hanging off of it, unless you wish them to be there for character. Don't worry, this doesn't have to be incredibly neat at this point!

3. Now you need to start on the handle... Chose the wider end of the stick, and see how you hand will fit comfortably and find out how long you want the handle to be... Then you need to start working from the top of the handle, along the wand...
I find that this is easier if you cut into the stick at the bottom of the wand part, and then use the knife to cut along to wand, away from the handle... It helps to get the wand to a smaller diameter than the handle, and it is quite quick too...

4. Once you have worked your wand down so that the handle is defined, you need to carve the handle into a shape that you want, and make sure that you get the wand and the handle as smooth as you can with just the knife... get rid of any bumps or weird abnormalities, unless you want them there to ad character...

5. Use the Sandpaper to smooth it all off... Work it down until you are happy with the appearance, and make sure that you get rid of any excess sawdust... Make sure it is the length and shape that you want!

6. Use paint or ink... I recommend ink because it gives the appearance that it is real wood, it makes the knots show up more prominently and it makes it look more natural. If you want to use a matt or shiny gloss afterwards then it will add to the appearance, but you don't need to...

7. Sleep with your wand under your pillow, on a night when there is a full moon, and then you can begin using it... Make sure that you make it feel special!

Good luck, have fun, and remember... CUT AWAY FROM YOURSELF, AND KEEP YOUR FINGERS OUT OF THE WAY OF THE BLADE...

Oh, and ink stains clothing, so be careful of that too!

I hope this is useful guys!

Figgy!

No in all seriousness-nessness Shocked

I have my ickle baby cousins 'round, and they were all hyped up on candy and the such and we decided to make these wands that Fig suggested!

Well, we've only picked the sticks so far, and I think we're actually doing it tomorrow . . . but when we do I'll tell you what they're like. Wink
The kiddies are so excited, Charlie is on Nathan's back, screaming.

Yes... Well... Butterflii, you were the inspiration for this whole section!!!

How's that for special?

Just be REALLY careful... I hope you will be doing the carving or helping with the carving off of the wood and shaping...

Although i guess Charlie could just bite her way through it herself!

I remember when I was four...*thinks*

*an image of cats sleeping on radiators, dogs chewing on Barbie butts, babies puking their guts out all over the floor, squirrels running rampant and an unknown woman living in the room next to ours constantly coming and going comes to mind*

Holy crap.

I made a wand today!!! The wood was light colored, but now it's dark. I wrapped the handle, which isn't really any particular shape, with a strip of light colored faux leather. It's kinda long. Probably longer than most.

I'd be totally psyched if I could wield a sword, or even if I just had a sword. But my wand is pretty cool. It's not really straight, and I left one little bit sticking out. I likes it muchly. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

I made two swords (PVC pipe swords, but still), and I'm not bad a wielding them. I've always wanted a real sword, I hold an awesome sword in my hand. I had the money to buy said awesome sword. But I didn't not have the parental permission. But today I wov, that's right wov on my very wovyness, that I will own a sword!

Err . . . right.

ANYWAY!

I made the wands!

Well, it must be said, they are fabulous.

Mine's long and blue, and I engraved star patterns in the handle, and it has silver glitter on the tip.
Charlie's is supposed to be pink, but it went a peachy-red colour, but we lied to her and said it was a 'special pink', and she stuck glitter almost all over it, and tied a nice piece of purple string around the handle (?)
It actually looks kinda scary . . . But she's happy.
And Rowan did her's blue too but hers has a green ribbon on, it actually looks better than mine. =[

*is outshined by 9yr old*

Mine's really simple. No carved designs, glitter, or ribbons. And it's brown. But I still love it!!! Very Happy
