I really don't understand how people can be cruel to animals, or send them to shelter's when they grow out of the "cute" and "young" stages, or because they are moving somewhere else...

You look into your pet's eyes, and you see love and devotion, and total trust.
You are their family, their whole world. There is no difference between sending them to a shelter, and giving up your 5 year old child... well actually there is... if a child is not taken home after a while, then they just stay there for longer, but if an animal is not taken home after a while, they are put to sleep...

I don't understand how a person could love this animal, play games with them, feed them, have them fall asleep on them, and then turn around and give them up...

It just doesn't make sense to me at all.

I always put my animals first... if the discussion was whether i was going to play with the animals, or clean their cage as opposed to going to sleep, or if i was going to buy them something, or buy something for myself, i will always put them before my own needs...

I love animals, and I could never consider doing any harm to Storm or Boomer, nor any other animal there is...
Never have done and never will...

I hate cruelty to animals. Being it a pidgeon or a whale. I don't like it. I hate the thought of hunting, but hitting or abandoning an animal really repulses me.
I have tons of pets, my house is like a zoo. Yes, sometimes it gets a bit too much when you're tripping over animals and have to clean out a zillion cages and take them for walks etc. etc, but I would NEVER consider hurting, abandoing or killing any of them.

I read the story you posted from that site Figgy, How Could you? I loved it, but it made me cry. It's so true though.

It looks like you are asking me how could i post that story... lol.

It made me cry too, it is so true to how people treat animals a lot of the time... something else comes up, so they go, "oh well, the dog has to go." And they don't try and figure out a better way...

And the problem is that animals cant tell you what they want or how they feel, so they just have to trust you, and if you do them wrong, then they don't even have the ability to make you feel guilty, it is so cruel!

I have a budgie, Spencer, who i am sure i will never see again, but i love him, and the reason i wont get to have him back, is because he has a new friend and i would hate to separate them... its not like i can say to him "I want you to come with me, so you have to say goodbye" all that Spencer and Charlie would know, was that the other one had disappeared... and i couldn't do that to them, so as much as it pains me that i cant have him back, i am happy for him...

I have nine animals that I take care of.
It used to be ten. The house down the road's dog, called Keizer, kept getting out, and I would would take him to the nextdoor neighboors house because she didn't have things that would break in her backyard. After a while, Keizer stopped getting out, and when i asked why, they said they had gotten rid of him. Sad

oh thats so sad!

Its not the animal's fault if they keep getting out! It means that you need to make more of an effort to keep them in, and also to keep them entertained... take them for walks, get them toys and stuff... He probably broke out because he was bored!!! Sad

I <3 my animals. I usually buy food/toys/whatever for them before I buy things for myself. Which is mostly art supplies and clothes and what not...but whatever. Animals come first!

My dog is from a shelter, and was in a collecter's house, which is a person who takes in animals, but doesn't care for them. Molly was one of hundres of animals rescued from a trailer in the city. I feel so sad for all the animals who ever have been hurt by humans, or other animals, and dog fights are prone in my area. I yell at people all the time about laws that should be in place for aniamls, and even the people who hurt their animals. The place I spend a lot of time at is the shelter, and it makes me both upset and happy; upset that whatever happened to them happen, glad because I can help them get use to people and new homes.

Looking for something to post...been nothing new all day and I have contracted severe writers block and boredom...on top of that it's raining...dammit...

I can hardly take care of all my animals, seeing as there's four of them (sometimes five...I call that snake my pet sometimes.) and only one of me, but Duke doesn't seem to mind sharing a bowl with Simba, though he's curious as to why I've gotten a dog so much bigger than him...and Key usually gets her own food. I've always hated the thought of hunting too, seeing as it tore me apart when I'd go outside and just talk to them, and then going to a friends house and seeing one of the animals I had talked to hung on a wall or their feathers in a pile on the counter and their flesh in a plastic bag in the fridge...and Mae wanted to send me to juvinille (sp?) hall because that girl ('member, Figgy?) said it's funny watching a dead squirrel fall from a tree, to which I replied, "yeah...you know what else is funny? Tying your newborn brother to a tree, and open firing on him, and the last you see of him before filling him full of lead is his sad, questioning eyes and hearing his shrieks as you shoot him with that damn 12 gauge (sp?)."

As you can tell, I was thoroughly "PO"d.

Yikes yeah, u were. i would have been too. I used to know people who thought it was funny to throw rocks at the horses down the street, another guy i once new did some really bad things to a dog. (which i reported him for) a friend gor burgled once while i think the family was out, and the burglur beat their dog to death with a baseball bat.

what i dont get is why most people who stick up for animals stick up for them insofar as they are pets. There are around a hundred humback whales at the moment that are being allowed to be killed for japaneese scientific research off the australian coast, APPROVED BY OUR GOVERNMENT! scientific research my ass, you only need ONE whale for that, and you dont set out to get ONE whale. ARRRRGGGHH MAKES ME ANGRY. and you know what, i also dont like poachers. Poachers piss me off, the tigres are DYING damnit, its in your intrests to keep them there anyway to kill, so help us out! what are you going to do when they are all dead, sell lama skin?

Thats so sad Aurora!

I feel so sad when i see things on the news about those whalers, and other things... Like the culling of the kangaroos! And there was something else about some birds in... some state... and they were trying to catch them and kill them because they made too much noise!

Relocate them, put them in a zoo, whatever... but kill them because they make too much noise?

I think it was in 2003?? there was a massive brumby culling in NSW forests, because they were killing all the native trees, ringbarking them. Anyway, they showed it on the news, they blew one foot wide holes straight through the middle of them, from helicopters, and they targeted pregnant mares. There is NO WAY that was done humanely. NO CHANCE. I cried so hard when i saw that on the news. They had footage of horses lying on the ground neer waterholes and huge chunks of them were just missing! I hate to think a human AIMED AT THEM DELIBERATLY! Sometimes i just want to spit at the entire human population.

Im a vegitarian for a reason too. You should see the way abotuair workers kill meat. never again will i eat it. I never used to eat veal or lamb anyway, never used to like pork and beef tastes like cardboard, plus pigs are smart, vows are cute and chickens, well i ate them for a while then got put off them from a mixture of bird flu and kebabs in southbank euuurgghh. Then stoped eating fish because i wouldve gone nuts from the mercury. Now i have a really cute fish called Poseidon. (CUTE TO THE MAXIMUM) and a family, THATS RIGHT a family of goldfish. i couldnt eat a fish if i tried now, all id see is fat daddy staring at me, and Poseidon flashing death stares.

There are humane ways to kill animals.... usually they are stunned so they don't feel any pain. Sorry Aurora but I'm a devout non-vegetarian.

Still love animals though!!!!

Sorry, Kidashka, but I've always hated it when people say there ARE ways to kill animals humanely, so since there humane ways, all people kill animals humanely so I'm going to gorge myself on meat.

I've seen people kill fish at a fish market; they'll take a live fish and slam it's head on the edge of a counter until it's either stunned or dies. Then they slice it open, (even if it's still wriggling, they're not going to spend all day trying to kill one fish) and drain it...I actually had to watch Travis do that once. I nearly puked, but then he yelled at me for telling him he was a heartless jerk.

Although, sometimes cruelty leads to much better things. For instance. The people that got rid of Key's mother didn't want her anymore because she was pregnant. So they threw momma kitty out the window near the harbor, and then she had kitties, and one of those kitties got to live her life in laziness and luxury; every cats dream. Or at least Key's, if she's not hunting, she's on her back on the dock sunbathing. Until Duke starts sniffing her tummy, then they push each other in the lake.

I was just talking to someone, and they told me this awful story...

They had a dog. A beautiful dog; a white one with light brown spots and silky fur, you know? I dunno what they're called...not Jack Russels...anyway. He was the runt of the litter. And these people thought he was so beautiful, and it was one of those Clifford stories--"mommy, he /needs/ me!" so they take him home and feed him and love him. But their parents were at work ALL DAY, and they kept him in a dog crate all day. When the kids came home, they weren't allowed to let the dog out until their parents came home, because he wasn't house broken. (No time, see, those jerks were at work all day.) So he would poop and pee and everything in that box. So finally they decide that THE DOG is a pain. "OMG, it takes a huge toll on my life. I hate it." so they went to get rid of it. They put him at the shelter and a new family took him. It gets even worse from there. Since he wasn't house broken, he would poop ALL OVER THE HOUSE. And they thought it was awful. "OMG this dog was tortured and abused, but all I give a Sh*t about is that he's crapped on my already filthy floor!" and that was the final straw for them, because after a week--A FRICKIN' WEEK--they got sick of the dog and had him put to sleep. They said she was really nice, and cute, and energetic and all that...but they didn't care. But the happy ending here is that he was put down humanely; with a shot.

Humane, my ass.
