There are two songs I really like that have the most creative lyrics. Thought they might get your creative juices going! (or you can just appreciate the songs)...

"Tonight And The Rest Of My Life"
Nina Gordon

Down to the earth I fell
With dripping wings
Heavy things won't fly
And the sky might catch on fire
And burn the axis of the world
That's why I prefer a sunless sky
To the glittering and stinging in my eyes

[Chorus:]
I feel so light
This is all I want to feel tonight
I feel so light
Tonight and the rest of my life

Gleaming in the dark sea
I'm as light as air
Floating there breathlessly
When the dream dissolves
I open up my eyes
I realize that
Everything is shoreless sea
A weightlessness is passing over me

[Chorus]

Everything is waves and stars
The universe is resting in my arms

"I Wish Somebody Would Build A Bridge (So I Can Get Over Myself)"
Thirsty Merc (Aussie band)

Munching on a ham and cheese sando in the morning on Friday
Cruising down the Pacific Highway
Thinking 'bout the day ahead

I paid the rent cheque, got my registration and phone bill
If those two don't overthrow me the dogs will
But heck at least I know the taste of bread

Why do I seem to spend my whole damn life chasing paper?
I'm like an actor turned singer turned waiter
I'll wait around until I meet with my maker
Then I'll sign up for AA or something

I just wish there was some other way to get myself somewhere
This little strip of earth and all that I've done there
I'm like a bull-ant on the leg of a sunchair
Under a magnifying glass

I wish somebody would build a bridge
So I could get over myself
On my own I'm wasting my time

I take a phonecall on the mobile while I'm checking the meter
One sec I need to turn up that little speaker
It's getting noisy in this little town

We're like America we love to make a ho-har out of jacks**t
I never ever really seemed to fit
But now I'm stuck so deep in all of this

Come to think of it I might as well be travelling backwards
It's been an hour and I'm only in Chatswood
I hate the way that I'm becoming a product
Go pick me up for $24.95

I'm on sale and it's retail in the world of deception
You can treat a man if he can't get erections
Is there a pill for my lack of direction?
Thanks mate, I'll have a pack of those

I wish somebody would build a bridge
So I could get over myself
On my own I'm wasting my time
I wish somebody would build a bridge
So I could get over myself
On my own I'm losing my mind

It's all good I got a broom and a cheap persian rug now
I can sweep the whole thing outta my sight now
Outta sight, outta mind

I'll keep on going until I'm pushing 30 or 40
And as long as I don't do something naughty
I love my wife, what a life

there's more but I'm not sure that I can post it here. I don't mean any offence, I just find the lyrics original and funny (and Figgy can take them off the site if they're not ok)

Lol, yes the next bit is something that you shouldn't post on here... perhaps we could put warning of drug references?

Anyway, i don't know the first song... never heard it... but the merc one... Razz

Its a lot of fun to listen to... a lot of their songs are very creative (and no i'm not just saying that cause i know the guys) Build a bridge is a fun one to listen to in the car... and shout out at the "thanks mate i'll have a pack of those" bit... especially funny when you are on the Pacific Highway... Razz

Yeah, i do a bit Razz

I am a really big fan of Sean's (Thirsty Merc's lead guitartist's) band, although it is a totally different style... The Merc is kinda Rock, and some Pop Rock type stuff, where as Midnight Swim is Soft Indie Rock... Very good, heartfelt lyrics though...

HOW COULD YOU LEAVE OUT ROCK LOBSTER!?!?!?!

We were at a party
His ear lobe fell in the deep
Someone reached in and grabbed it
It was a rock lobster

We were at the beach
Everybody had matching towels
Somebody went under a dock
And there they saw a rock
It wasn't a rock
It was a rock lobster

Motion in the ocean
His air hose broke
Lots of trouble
Lots of bubble
He was in a jam
S'in a giant clam

Down, down

Underneath the waves
Mermaids wavin'
Wavin' to mermen
Wavin' sea fans
Sea horses sailin'
Dolphins wailin'

Red snappers snappin'
Clam shells clappin'
Muscles flexin'
Flippers flippin'

Down, down

Let's rock!

Boy's in bikinis
Girls in surfboards
Everybody's rockin'
Everybody's fruggin'

Twistin' 'round the fire
Havin' fun
Bakin' potatoes
Bakin' in the sun

Put on your noseguard
Put on the lifeguard
Pass the tanning butter

Here comes a stingray
There goes a manta-ray
In walked a jelly fish
There goes a dogfish
Chased by a catfish
In flew a sea robin
Watch out for that piranha
There goes a narwhale
HERE COMES A BIKINI WHALE!
