Well, as they say, hindsight is the best form of insight... or something along those lines... Suffice it to say that i am sure they feel terrible enough as it is, and it is something that they will never forget... And one good thing to come from this situation, is that it will make other naive parents take notice, and take care...

I am not condoning what they did... but everyone makes mistakes, and hopefully a lot of people will have learnt...

My grandmother gave me a new book, "The Encylopedia of Serial Killers". Don't hate me when I say I love it, I've been attached to it all week.

But this doesn't sound like someone who wants to kill, all the people in that book are usually more sinister, like the Zodiac killer, most of them kidnap, rape, torture, and leave the body out in the open to taunt the police. The other store the bodies in their basement or bury them, and I'm just assuming here...but if he wants to kill small children, then obviously he gets some sort of sick pleasure from killing, so there'd probably be more reports of missing children. I would think it's just a hostage situation to torment the police...I dunno. I'm just guessing here.

Maybe I SHOULD be a crimestopper.

hostage situations are supposed to involve threats and demands though, and nothing has been asked of the police or the parents.

there are probably tons of missing persons and children in every area, and with no way of knowing if they're involved in Maddie's case, they're not going to publicize them all.

like when you look at serial rapists, it's usually not until the rapist is caught that more people come forward and confirm he is their rapist as well. it is very possible that this person has taken other children, and that police have no way of knowing if the cases are related. not every serial offender has an indentifiable MO.

(I've taken a lot of forensic science classes in school lol)

Yeah, I mean if a man gets charged for raping one girl, then usually tons of other girls will come forward, saying he's done the same to them, as fbi said.

Alot of killings, kidnapps and rapes are publicly displayed though, depends on what the family wants.

Maddie may be the first child this person has abducted, and may be planning more attacks, there's too many possiblities to get in to, but he must've done a good job, because she's been missing like 3 months isn't it? And nothing's been found. . . at all.

But I've read cases in magazines, where people have been held captive for a few years and finally escaped, but because Maddie is so young, the kidnapper could easily condition her into believing this is her real life and forgetting her previous life and parents. *deep breath*

it's so rare that they live, it's sad. but you have to wonder too, why they took only her and not her little twin siblings... to me, that does not speak well as to what they wanted to do with her. if they were going to kidnap a child to keep and raise as their own, why not a 2 year old versus a 4 year old. I hate to be so cynical about these things, but after so many courses in law, policing and forensics, I just know the general patterns, and it doesn't look good. I would love to think we might have an Elizabeth Smart homecoming for Madeline, but it's so few and far between.

In regards to whether or not the person has taken other kids, we also have to remember that this did not occur in a country where we live, so we might not have heard about other missing reports, and they might be older cases. hundreds of people and children go missing, and sadly most of them do not get the attention that Madeline has gotten. They usually get a couple nights on the news, and that's all. I can only think of 2 missing children from my area that were well publicized (and both were found to be killed within 48 hours, even tho their bodies were found later), but surely there must be more with how many people live in Toronto and the GTA.

I hate to be a downer, but I've always been a realist, and the world is dangerous place. I can only hope that they find her soon, either way, so her family can have their child back or have some closure.

You remind me of myself, only I'm a bit more negative. I'm a truthful person, but only when telling the truth causes problems/'pain'/awkward moments. (Then I leave real fast.)

Non-stupid people are the ones with feelings, who understand rape is a sadistic, disgusting thing to do, Stupid ones, don't get this and do it anyway =[
