*Hope*

At least she'd tried, but she still felt bad knowing he was in pain.
Her arms still wrapped around herself, she followed Shade to the wall and sat down to rest on another cushion.
Releif washed over Hope as she watched Shade throw a few logs into the fire. She saw him lean forward and flicked his hand to set the logs alight. She noticed Shade wince as a fresh cut appeared on his hand. It hurt her to know he was in pain and there was nothing she could do.
He bravely reached up and wrapped his hand in an old cloth to hold back the bleeding.
Slowly he sat down next to her on one of the cushions. "I'm afraid theres no food in here, but there are some fruit trees near by that we can go to soon. But first...", then he looked at her steadily and again she blushed under his feirce gaze. "...What do you know about the gifts you have?"
Hope thought for a moment, she didn't know much.
"Not much," She admitted. Rubbing her hands together awkwardly. "I noticed it when I was a lot younger, five or something, I guess. When I used to fall over, and scrape my knee or something, I noticed I could make it feel better. Sometimes even make the marks fade."
She stopped for a moment, trying to recollect as much as she could. It was getting warmer now, the fire was heating her legs up and she was sat cosily between a large cushion and Shade. It was weird talking to someone, she'd normally drift through school not speaking to a single person.
"I suppose I just got better. I've never healed anything seriously. Not any broken bones or such, just scratches, bruises . . . burns. " She added, indicating Shade's hands. "I was never in good control of them when I was younger, sometimes I could heal huge gashes and other times I couldn't heal anything. Now though, I can pretty much heal things when I want to, but it takes alot of energy out of me."
There was another pause as Hope ran out of things to say. She knew suprisingly little about her 'powers'. She nervously tucked her legs into her and wrapped her arms around her knees. "What do you know about yours?" She asked Shade.

He looked away for a moment, thinking. "There are others like us. I met one once, as I told you. They know that we're here, and they may come for us yet. They sent me two books once, a long time ago when I was younger. My father took them and locked them away, but I stole them back from his room." He got up and reached up to the shelf again, bringing down two books, one firey red, the other Icy blue. "Each of these represents part of my gift. Ice and fire flames. No one else has ever been able to open or read them. It's wierd." He sat down opposite her, but this time failed to meet her gaze.

*Hope*

Others? Hope's heart skipped a beat. That may come for us? Excitement pulsed through Hope at the thought of her fitting in. Being around other people like her, like Shade.
When he had finished talking, Shade reached up and grabbed two books from the shelf. One was firey red, and the other icey blue. They were books of his powers. Hope was reminded instantly of his eyes, one a warm reddish brown the other a bright ultra-marine.
Did she have books? Maybe hers were green like her eyes, or a totally different colour completely. She shivered with excitment.
When Shade had sat back down she gingerly ran her hands over the cover of the red one, in awe at it's beauty. Then smoothed the second one.
"So . . . so they don't open?" Asked Hope, a trace of a frown on her porcelaine face. These books amazed her, she wondered what on earth could be inside. Would her books be shut? Locked to her eyes?
Shade sat opposite her, but for the first time today, his eyes didn't meet hers. She tilted her head to the side, like she did so many times when she was thinking of something. She could tell these books meant a lot to him, she knew she'd treause hers the same way if she had them.
"Are you Ok?" She asked Shade, who was quiet and seemingly staring at the floor.

"They do open" He replied quietly, ignoring her last question and taking the blue book. "Only for me though" He touched the coveres, and opened the book gently. The pages were covered with blue writing in a language that neither of them could read. "I've never found out what they say, only that they're important, and they tell us something about my gifts. Did you ever get books or a book like these?" he asked her suddenly. "I think the covers symbolise what gift we have. The red and blue show Fire and Ice" He ran his hand over the faint symbol on the cover of the book. "At least, I think they do."

"No, I've never gotten any books." She said, with a tinge of dissapointment in her voice. "Who gave them to you?" Still in awe, she gazed at the beautiful books. But why were they in such a strange language? How could they help with their powers if they couldn't read it?
She sighed, wishing she had her own books to explore, and figure out.
"And yes, I think the covers do symbolise our powers, I mean you can control ice and fire right?"
Then she thought to herself, how could the cover of a book represent healing?

He nodded. "Yours are out there somewhere." he said, trying to cheer her up. "You just have to wait for them. Someone will have them for you." He stood up suddenly, chucking the now faintly red cloth back onto the makeshift shelf. "Anyway, I bet you're hungry. We left just before lunch, and I bet that you're just devestated at missing the schools wonderful lunch menu" He said sarcastically, the hint of a smile on his face. "You up to some tree climbing?" he asked, helping her to her feet. he walked over to where he had left his gloves, and pulled them on.

"Yours are out there somewhere." Shade explained, standing up. Hope felt a smile creep over her face and her heart skipped excitedly. Chucking the stained cloth back onto the shelf Shade turned back to Hope. "Anyway, I bet you're hungry. We left just before lunch, and I bet that you're just devestated at missing the schools wonderful lunch menu" Shade joked, a smile playing across his face. Hope let out a tinkley laugh as she thought of the cold, sloppy dinners that school had provided.
"You up to some tree climbing?" Shade enquired, lending her a hand and helping her to her feet before pulling on his fingerless gloves.
"Yeah, sure." Hope said quickly, hungry and excited. Her stomache have a growl as she moved but she satisfied herself with the thought of food soon.
"Ready?" She asked Shade.

Shade led her over to the door, and looked out. "If we drop down from here, then we can head over to the clearings which have all of the fruit trees." He grabbed an overhead branch and swung his legs out onto another one. "Follow me down. Only some of the branches will hold us." He began to climb slowly downwards, checking on Hope from time to time. Finally he reached the ground, and looked up to her. "Only a short way down now" He called up to her.

*Hope*

As Shade led her through the branches, Hope watched carefully where he went and how he did things. He did them suprisingly quickly, which showed Hope he obviously knew what he was doing. She clung onto the branches and swung lightly to the safest ones, climbing slowly but elegantly down.
Shade reached the bottom first, "Only a short way down now" he called up. She smiled and after a few awkward miutes of climbing, she dropped down next to him on the floor.
She smiled, satisfied with her attempt. She'd never done many things outdoors, she used to listen to music quietly in her room, or read fantasy books, not climb trees like the other kids.

Shade led the way, threading his way through the trees, which rusled slightly in the breeze. A clearing appeared up ahead, surrounded by small trees that were easy to climb. He turned back to watch Hope enter the clearing. "So, what type of fruit do you like?" he asked

*Hope*

"Uuummm, anything really." Hope said, unhelpfully. Shade continued looking at her obviously wanting a more detailed answer. Hope shrugged, "Apples?" the first thing that came into her head. She wasn't even that fond of apples, but something about Shade made her shy and she was so hungry, she'd eat anything right now.

((Sorry I've been so long))

Shade nodded. “OK, apples it is then.” He replied “We can go get some other stuff from the village soon if you like” He added as he headed towards one of the trees. “I’ll drop some down to you.” He reached up and grabbed one of the branches, which was quite high above his head. Pulling himself up, he sat a moment on the branch, before standing up carefully and beginning to climb. The tree wasn’t all that high, but the branches were thin in places, and he had to tread carefully.
Finally he came within reach of some of the apple branches. “Get ready” He called down to Hope. He reached up to grab one, but movement on the ground caught his eye. Looking harder, he saw a small group of people heading their way. He stared at them, momentarily forgetting his apple mission. No one else had ever ventured this far into the woods. Hope was the only other person who he had shown his secret home. There was just something about her that he trusted. She was the first person he had been able to talk to properly without feeling too awkward in a long time, and she was also quite pretty.
The wind in the tree almost made him loose his footing, and the sharp pain he got in his side as he almost fell off the branch brought him back to his senses. Holding on tighter, he reached up again and picked an apple off the branch, followed by another.

((OOC - Don't worry about it, me too!))

IC

*Hope*

Hope watched cautiously as Shade wondered into the trees, they weren't thick, strong trees like the old oaks by her home. Shade was climbing a long, thin tree and she was concerned. But he seemed to know his way up carefully, which made her relax a little as he swung swiftly throught the branches.
"Get ready," He called down to her. She stood strong and reached her hands over her head, ready to catch the fruits he dropped to her.
For a moment, something seemed to distract him, he stopped still for a moment, and looked into the distance.
Hope couldn't see what he was looking at, as the tree's were too thick, and she wasn't high enough. She looked up to Shade again, expecting him to drop an apple.
A slight breeze rippled through the trees making Shade start and nearly lose his footing. A breath caught in Hope's throat, and it was as if her heart stopped beating for a split second.
It was funny how close you could get to someone in such a short space of time.
"Careful Shade!" Hope called out, not wanting to sound like she cared that much, but deep down she did. She saw him hold on tighter to the branch and begin to pick off apples, dropping them one by one into her hand.
When he'd dropped about 6 he swung himself down, and landed quite gracefully beside her. She grinned at him greatfully, but his mind seemed to be somewhere else.
"What it is?" She asked, her smile fading as she followed his gaze in the direction where he'd stared earlier.

"There are people in the forest. I've never seen anyone else venture this far in. They're dressed wierdly aswell. In black robes with hoods. They seem to be looking for something." Or someone He added silently. He turned to look at Hope, looking worried. "We should get back to the treehouse. It'll probably be safer there" he said. Taking five of the apples off her, he put four of them in his bag, and bit into the last one.
As he began walking, a loud Cawing came from nearby, making them both jump. Instinctively the two of them stepped closer together as they walked, watching their surroundings all the time.

*Hope*

Shade explained about the people he'd seen advancing towards them. Hope wasn't sure how she felt. She was worried, obviously but so confused. All of this was happening so quickly.
"We should get back to the treehouse. It'll probably be safer there" Shade said, taking five of the apples and sliding them into his bag, except for one which he kept in his hand and bit into.
Hope agreed, and bit into her one too. She had forgotten how hungry she was.
They walked along side eachother in silence, both eating their apples.
A loud eery crow's caw came from above and echoed around them. Without thinking about it Hope jumped and pushed herself again Shade, grabbing his arm.
They walked on as before, but much closer now, inspecting their surroundings with caution. Hope kept looking worriedly over her shoulder, still clutching Shade's arm. Having eaten most of her apple and being too scared to eat more, she had thrown it to the ground.
As they approached the treehouse, Shade gestured for her to climb up first, smiling breifly but quickly looking behind him to check all was safe.
Hope smiled back and gingerly took her first step and pulled herself up. When she was safely in the tree house, she reached down with her hand to help up Shade.
