OK!!

If you need help with character names just come here and tell me the character's gender and personality, I'll soon get back to you with a list of names. A personality to match a name really adds grip to the reader's time.

There are also many sites that list names from many different places in the world. One I use often is 20000names.com. i find these can be very useful indeed.

cool, what I like to do is match the personality of a character to it's name.

Baby name books. So they give you a weird look when you buy one, but the ones that have the meanings, what their derived from, and what language they are originally, are amazing. Smile I've used 2000names too, and I like it. I have a cool site for Irish names too that I found. Can't remember the address, grr.

So I'm rewriting one of my novels in progress (Under the singing tree) and am definitely going to need help coming up with new names for characters. I won't need them for all the characters, just the formerly Arthurian ones. It would probably help to read it first.

I find for fantasy names, www.rinkworks.com/namegen is very helpful. And generators for literally EVERYTHING are at www.seventhsanctum.com; they have loads of generators. I mean, over a hundred.

I personally like rinkworks better for names; but seventh sanctum for everything else. Seventh sanctum doesn't always provide the greatest names...

I used to use Seventh Sanctum, but it wasn't the best names, however, I got bored and wrote my process for name creation. It's lame, but it works so who cares.

The Process of Creation by GD wrote:
Some the basics for creating a fantasy name:
1) Take a name-any name-and change letters. Maybe switch letters around.
2) Add an h or two in the middle of the name.
3) Add endings such as -us for males or -a for females
4) Reverse parts of the name.
5) Type it really fast and check out if you misspelled it might create ideas.
6) Double up vowels. Some vowels work well in pairs ie ea, ae, ou, ei, ai, etc.

Some names work for different cultures. For example if you want a name for a barbaric culture, try names with harder sounds. Ks, Rs, and Ts work well for this. "Ea"s and "Qu"es give an exotic ring to a name and work well for wizards. Knights do not have very fancy names, and they tend to be softer.

^That's what I get for being a Latin student. Also I must tell an interesting anecdote. I couldn't think of a name for one character so I named her Dun No and applied the above process. It actually worked. Naweha is her name.

That sounds neato; then I don't have to worry if anyone else gets the name from rinkworks. xD
