You know, I thought about it for a while and I don't think there are many straight male vegetarians. I have no real scientific proof to base this off of. It's more of a generalization. I mean, there are SOME straight male vegetarians, but usually there's a reason behind it, such as:

1) religion-some religions decree that you're not allowed to eat meat.
2) a woman-My friend's brother pretended to be a vegetarian so that she would like him.
3) Health issues-Sometimes you just have to cut so you don't die.

But seriously...how many straight males voluntarily do not eat meat? Seems to be more of a female thing.

yeah.... thats true... i've never really hought about it before....
I think its mainly because female vegetarians or vegans stop eating meat for a few main reasons... they sympathise with the animals and feel horrible that it was slaughtered to feed them, or that they just hate the taste or texture... i've found that its mostly the first reason.
Most guys however love the texture, and the taste, and its considered a very manly thing to eat a big chunk of steak; it's just what they do!
i think that guys go with the mentality of "hey, it's allready dead, and if it tastes great i may as well eat it."
Guys generaly seem to have that thing about not wasting the food, and not taking more than they can have, and if they do, then they need to finish it.... maybe this goes back to days when they were nomadic hunters and they would have that food that they had worked for and that they knew had to be eaten, it was the only way they would survive...

i dunno, just my thoughts on the subject... Razz

Figgy.

I'll admit that my considering vegetarianism was indeed due to a gal, which is a story that I won't be defacing yet another forum with. However, the more I thought of it, the more I thought it made sense. You are, essentially, eating corpses. I don't particularly like fat, and every meat has it, I dislike the fact that it kind of kills you if it's not cooked. I don't find the taste anything special - I don't eat it because I like it, more because it's food.

And veg is better for you. And I do love nuts.

8O NOT THOSE NUTS!

All in all, I've had a good long think about meat. I can see more cons than pros, to be honest, but... I can't give up bacon just yet. I'm trying, but it's tough.

I can't recall where this originally came from but: "I dodn't work my way to the top of the food chain to be a vegetarian".
Whilst I accept your decsion, I can never hope to understand them... I love meat, and I could never give it up. I can't see why you don't eat meat... animals die all the time, why can we not kill some to eat, every hunting animal does so... why not us?

I'll shut up now...

I'm straight. I'm a vegetarian.

I did it because animals have feelings to and to think they might have had a perfect social life, and then get chopped up and killed so we can eat, even though we can grow our own damn food. It makes me so ANGRY!

It had nothing to do with some girl.

I've been vegetarian since August in 2006.

my brother's best friend is a veggie and there is no question about his sexulity. I think he became a vegetarian when he discovered that in a lot of meat they just stuff everything and anything in as long as there is no major change to the taste.

I will still eat meat. FOREVA!!

I never said ALL males who don't take women, religion, or health into consideration are gay, I'm just saying those who don't take those into context and are straight is something that's rare. (I like my steak medium, actually... Very Happy )

I am a straight male vego, and here is the reason why:

I have no problems with people who eat meat - but have any of you meat eaters ever killed, drained and gutted an animal and eaten it? And when I say 'killed' I mean a fair kill, a kill with a knife or spear etc, not with a gun.

I have been a vegetarian all my life, I was raised that way. I did however rebel against my parents for a period of time while in highschool, and ate meat behind their backs.

Being a vegitarian is now my own personal choice, because I believe that any person who eats meat needs to realise and experience what sort of a life the animal that they have just eaten has lead.

Animals are lined up, killed, and sold. People buy it and eat it, without the experience of the hunt, they eat it without any of satisfaction of killing it, as well as using the whole animal. Most of it is wasted.

So there you go, thats my reasons.

Hit me back.

Cheers Cayne

I'm female and I'm a veggie! I know the topics about Male vegetarians I just thought I'd tell you.

I think it's because Males obviously don't have as much care, sympathy and kindness as woman do. Please don't take it the wrong way but as men are high on testosterone and also because they may not want to look like a sissy, they eat meat even though some may be slightly guilty about the animals.
My dad however eats alot of meat. He's got this whole ego thing and he thinks its real manly to sit chomping a steak. Meat completly repules me. I used to not eat it because I thought it was cruel and now I can't even bear the smell.
I think it may also be down to laziness. When I first started off as a Vegetarian I was about nine and when everyone else had dinner I found it really hard to find something to eat and I think some men don't want to have that hassle and be able to eat what they want when they want. Now that I've been a veggie for about six years I find meal time easy.
My dad said to me. "If you want to be a vegetarian that's fine, but they aren't going to stop killing cows, chickens and sheep just because one girl stopped eating it."
He's right in a way, but the more people that stop eating it, the less need there is going to be for people to kill them. Therefore we won't have to kill as many.

I babble on and on and on . . . don't I? Laughing

Yes. Medium Rare is good.

But be sure if you ever go to texas, say Rare, because they over-cook everything down there and pour BBQ sauce all over it.

*grumbles something about respecting customers*

I don't eat any meat. Except chicken. Breast meat only, actually. I can't stand dark meat, it's too tough and game-y. xP

Mae goes with the the whole "it's already dead, why waste it's death?" crap. Drives me nuts. I say "it shouldn't have been killed in the first place. Humans are sick and they disgust me." and then she's all quiet and does that "*sigh*...yep." and then I say "DON'T DO THAT!" and she goes "no, just stop it." and she tries to make me feel guilty whenever she loses. I CAN'T STAND IT!

Humans...were made to eat meat. Notice that we have pointy teeth. See, they aren't on cows, or horses or any plant eater, they just have molars. We have those too. Humans are omnivores. We eat meat and plants. Whatever...

I try to eat Kosher meat though. So that I know the animals don't suffer.

Animals always suffer when killed. I would have said going through death of any description would be suffering, wouldn't you?
