Ok, so, having worked in childcare, and really missing the whole thing, i went and saw the Nanny Diaries at the movies... Then i went and ordered the books from Amazon.com. I finished it in three sittings...

I must say... With my childcare experience, i could really relate to it... And having had to leave a childcare centre without saying goodbye, or with merely an hour to say goodbye... It really spoke to me...

I really found myself liking the main character, and Grayer... I read it in three sittings, and bawled my eyes out...

While i really liked Grayer and Nan's characters, and Mrs X was just so freakishly well done with the whole evil factor, ooh, and Ms Chicago was just truly maniacal, but also really human... I did find that some of the characters had a bit of a cardboard feeling about them.

I found myself really rooting for Nan, and i got REALLY into it (i put the book down and just cried when i finished it... After having cried through the last little chunk of it also...

You would think that the things that happen to Nan would make me want to forget completely about childcare... But they don't... They make me want to go out tomorrow and get back into it...
The only thing that can fill a gap you get from leaving a childcare centre, and a bunch of amazing kids behind, is going to another centre, finding out what awesome kids are there, and letting them into your heart...

I wished that Nan said something else at the end... I was really rooting for her to stick it to them... But at the same time i can understand why she didn't. And i also found it a bit irresponsible how much she drank while on the job... It could have done without that i think... But then again, i have never been a Nanny in America.

Anyway, i loved this book... I now have my own copy... And since having read it i find myself thinking back on parts of it, and wanting to read it again now... But i have to finish these other two books that i am reading in time for Nano...

I would recommend reading it... You don't know how great it feels to have one of these kids let you into their heart, or how terrible it feels to know that you will never see the child again, and they will never know why you left... But this book is the closest to it...
